The Latin American Veterinary Conference brings veterinarians from across the region to the Jockey Exhibition Center in Lima, Peru, each late spring for continuing education and a full commercial exhibition floor.
LAVC organizes the event, and its roots trace back to 2005, when the NAVC set out to extend high quality continuing veterinary education beyond the United States. Lima became the natural home for that expansion, so the conference now carries a portion of the NAVC experience directly into Latin America. Because of this history, the event holds a distinct place among regional veterinary gatherings rather than functioning as just another trade show.
The conference serves two connected groups. Veterinarians and veterinary students from Peru and across Latin America make up most attendees, and international speakers join them to broaden the clinical program. Meanwhile, exhibitors come mainly from the animal health industry, including companies that manufacture or distribute veterinary pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, equipment, technology and nutrition products.
Beyond the exhibition floor, the conference has held RACE certification since 2017, and it describes itself as the first organization of its kind in Latin America to earn that recognition. As a result, the clinical education carries weight attendees can apply toward their professional requirements, which in turn draws a more credential focused, engaged audience than a typical regional trade event.
