petsNmore founders Shilpa and Devaarchit with their Finance Director Shashwat in a PETBIZS featured interview about their smart pet care app.

petsNmore is the pet care app turning scattered records, missed reminders, disconnected services, and daily care stress into one smarter, trusted experience for India’s pet parents.

petsNmore began with a challenge many Indian pet parents already knew. And that is that health records sat in folders, reminders stayed across devices, and trusted services felt disconnected.

However, Shilpa, Devaarchit, and Shashwat, the three ambitious founders of petsNmore, saw all this as more than a daily inconvenience. They saw a care journey losing clarity at every step. Therefore, they built petsNmore, a connected smart pet care platform. It brings digital health records, preventive care, AI guidance, trusted services, products, and community into one experience.

To make the app’s concept unique, each founder brings a different strength.

  • Devaarchit drives vision and growth.
  • Shilpa turns ideas into practical systems.
  • Shashwat adds financial discipline and long-term structure.

Together, they are building more than another pet care app. They are shaping digital infrastructure for India’s companion care economy.

To understand the thinking, challenges, and ambition behind that journey, we sat down with the three petsNmore founders. Their answers reveal what it takes to build trust, connect a fragmented industry, and rethink pet care across India.

Thank you all for taking the time to speak with us today. Before we start, could you each briefly introduce yourselves and your role at petsNmore?

Devaarchit: I am the Co-Founder & CEO of petsNmore. My primary responsibility is shaping the company’s long-term vision while driving business growth through strategic partnerships, sales, customer relationships, and vendor engagement. I spend a significant amount of time understanding how the companion care industry is evolving — not just in India, but globally — and translating those insights into opportunities for our platform.

For me, petsNmore has never been about building another application. It’s about creating the digital infrastructure that can support the entire companion care ecosystem. Every partnership we establish, every feature we prioritize, and every business decision we make is guided by one question: Does this make life meaningfully better for pet parents and the businesses that serve them?

Shilpa: As Co-Founder & COO, my responsibility is to transform vision into execution. I oversee day-to-day operations, coordinate closely with our technology teams on product development and enhancements, drive product innovation, define customer experience strategies, and ensure our platform continuously evolves based on user needs.

My role extends beyond operations. I work across product design, marketing strategy, communication, process improvement, customer retention, and cross-functional collaboration. Building a platform of this scale requires every department to move together, and my focus is on ensuring that technology, operations, customer experience, and business objectives remain aligned.

What excites me most is solving real-world problems. Every feature we introduce should simplify pet parenting, remove friction, and create genuine value rather than simply adding functionality.

Shashwat: As Finance Director, I oversee financial planning, compliance, governance, budgeting, reporting, and commercial controls across the organization. I also lead financial due diligence for our marketplace operations, including vendor onboarding and establishing sustainable commercial frameworks.

While finance is often viewed as a support function, I see it as an enabler of innovation. Responsible financial management allows us to invest confidently in technology, expand partnerships, and build scalable systems without compromising long-term sustainability.

At petsNmore, every financial decision is evaluated not only for profitability but also for how it contributes to building a trusted ecosystem that can grow responsibly over many years.

For readers meeting petsNmore for the first time, how would each of you describe what it does in one or two sentences?

Devaarchit: petsNmore is India’s integrated companion care ecosystem designed to simplify every aspect of pet parenting. Rather than solving one isolated problem, we’re bringing together every essential aspect of responsible pet parenting into one connected experience.

Shilpa: We combine digital health records, preventive care, reminders, trusted veterinary services, marketplace access, education, AI-assisted guidance, and community into one seamless platform, enabling better outcomes for pet parents, veterinarians and businesses. petsNmore simplifies the everyday journey of caring for a companion animal.

Shashwat: Behind that experience is a platform built with strong operational and financial foundations. Our goal is to make companion care more organized, transparent, and accessible while creating sustainable opportunities for veterinary professionals and pet businesses.

Between the three of you, how do product, operations, and growth get divided, and who owns what?

Our responsibilities are clearly defined while remaining highly collaborative and complementary.

Devaarchit: I lead business strategy, vision, revenue growth, strategic partnerships, customer acquisition, business development, and external relationships. My focus is on identifying where the industry is heading and ensuring petsNmore stays ahead of those changes.

Shilpa: Operations and execution are my responsibilities. This includes coordinating product development with our technology teams, defining product strategy, driving innovation, improving customer journeys, overseeing marketing and communication strategy, implementing process improvements, and ensuring that ideas translate into scalable solutions.

Shashwat: I lead financial strategy and governance and am responsible for budgeting, compliance, financial reporting, commercial planning, marketplace vendor onboarding, and ensuring that every stage of our growth remains financially disciplined and sustainable.

While ownership is clearly defined, major strategic decisions are made collectively. Every significant initiative is evaluated through three lenses — market opportunity, operational feasibility, and financial sustainability — before it moves forward.

That balance allows us to innovate while remaining disciplined.

When you disagree on direction, walk me through how that actually gets resolved. Can you give an example?

One of our greatest strengths is that we approach decisions from different perspectives.

Devaarchit naturally evaluates opportunities through the lens of long-term vision, industry trends, customer needs, and strategic growth.

I (Shilpa) tend to challenge ideas from an execution standpoint. Can we build this efficiently? Will customers actually adopt it? Does it improve the overall experience, or simply increase complexity?

Shashwat examines commercial viability, financial impact, governance, and long-term sustainability.

This diversity of thinking leads to healthy discussions rather than conflict.

For example, there have been occasions where exciting product ideas emerged early in brainstorming sessions. Strategically, they aligned perfectly with our vision. Operationally, however, implementing them immediately would have increased complexity for users while stretching development resources. Instead of abandoning the ideas, we re-prioritized the roadmap, simplified the implementation, and are planning to introduce them in phases.

That process reflects how we work. We don’t ask, “Whose idea wins?” We ask, “What serves our customers best while supporting sustainable growth?”

Devaarchit, what gap in Indian pet care made you start petsNmore app, and when did that idea take shape?

The inspiration didn’t come from one defining moment — it came from repeatedly seeing the same problem. Before petsNmore I was helping set up a diagnostics centre for a vet, I noticed pet parents were using one application to buy food, another to find a veterinarian, paper files to manage medical history, phone reminders for vaccinations, spreadsheets for expenses, and social media groups to search for trusted recommendations.

Nothing connected.

As pet parents continue to grow across India, expectations are also changing. Companion animals are increasingly considered family members, yet the digital infrastructure supporting their care hasn’t evolved at the same pace.

That realization led us to think beyond building another product.

We began asking a different question: What if every aspect of companion care could exist within one trusted ecosystem?

That question ultimately became petsNmore.

Shilpa, what were pet parents struggling with day to day before this platform existed?

One of the biggest challenges wasn’t the absence of services — it was fragmentation.

  • Important vaccination records would be stored in paper folders that could easily be misplaced.
  • Medication schedules relied on memory or handwritten notes.
  • Grooming appointments were forgotten.
  • Families often struggled to coordinate responsibilities, particularly when multiple people cared for the same pet.
  • Finding trustworthy service providers was another challenge.
  • Recommendations were scattered across social media groups, online forums, and word-of-mouth networks, making it difficult to know whom to trust.

From an operational perspective, these weren’t isolated problems. They were all symptoms of one larger issue: the absence of an integrated ecosystem.

Our objective has been to remove that fragmentation by giving pet parents one reliable place to organize, manage, and access everything they need throughout their companion’s life.

Shashwat, what convinced you that this could grow into something bigger than a typical smart pet care app?

What convinced me was the scale of the opportunity beyond consumer technology.

When you look closely at the industry, you realize that pet parents, veterinary professionals, groomers, trainers, walkers, boarding facilities, retailers, and manufacturers all operate within the same ecosystem — but often in isolation.

Connecting these stakeholders creates value far beyond software.

From a financial perspective, ecosystem businesses tend to become stronger over time because every new participant increases value for everyone else. That’s fundamentally different from a standalone application serving one narrow purpose.

We believe petsNmore has the potential to become the digital infrastructure supporting India’s rapidly expanding companion care economy.

Devaarchit, when you say petsNmore is "an all-in-one pet care app," what does that mean in practice for someone using it daily?

For us, “all-in-one” doesn’t mean packing every imaginable feature into one application.

It means eliminating unnecessary switching between disconnected solutions.

A pet parent should be able to access health records, receive preventive care reminders, connect with trusted veterinarians, discover verified products and services, learn from expert content, engage with the community, and manage their pet’s daily life through one consistent experience.

The objective isn’t feature quantity, but continuity.

When every interaction is connected, pet parenting becomes simpler, more proactive, and significantly less stressful.

Shilpa, which everyday pet care tasks feel the most scattered for Indian families right now, and how does the app pull them together?

The everyday tasks are often the ones that become overwhelming over time.

For example, health records, vaccination schedules, feeding routines, medication reminders, grooming appointments, expense tracking, product purchases, and locating trusted professionals are typically managed across multiple platforms — or not managed consistently at all.

petsNmore brings these together into a unified experience.

Instead of remembering where information is stored, pet parents can focus on what matters most: spending quality time with their companions.

We believe technology should simplify care, not complicate it. And that’s the principle guiding every product decision we make.

Shashwat, between health tracking, pet profiles, marketplace access, and community features, which one tends to win people over first?

Interestingly, it isn’t always the most sophisticated feature.

Many users initially appreciate the convenience of maintaining complete digital profiles and medical records because they immediately solve an everyday problem. And, as they continue using the platform, they begin exploring reminders, preventive care, educational content, trusted services, an intuitive AI assistant, and eventually our marketplace and community features.

That progression reinforces an important lesson: lasting engagement isn’t driven by a specific feature, but it comes from delivering consistent value across the entire journey.

Devaarchit, why build one connected platform instead of doing a single service really well?

Because pet parenting isn’t experienced one service at a time. Every stage of a companion’s life is interconnected. For example,

  • Health influences nutrition.
  • Nutrition influences wellness.
  • Wellness influences behaviour.
  • Veterinary care connects with preventive healthcare.
  • Products connect with professional services.

Treating these as isolated experiences creates friction.

We believe the future belongs to integrated ecosystems where information flows naturally and every service complements the next. And that’s the future we’re building toward.

Shilpa, how do you add useful features without your pet care app starting to feel cluttered or overwhelming?

This is one of the biggest challenges in product design. You know every new feature competes for attention. Before anything is approved, we ask several questions:

  • Does it solve a genuine customer problem?
  • Will most users benefit?
  • Can it reduce effort rather than increase it?
  • Does it fit naturally within the existing experience?

Sometimes the best product decision is choosing not to build a feature.

We believe simplicity requires more discipline than complexity. Our aim isn’t to offer the highest number of features, but to deliver the most meaningful experience

Shilpa, what happens in someone's first few minutes after they download your pet care app? What are you hoping they feel?

I hope they immediately feel two things: clarity and confidence.

We want onboarding to be intuitive, not instructional. The first experience should naturally guide users toward creating their pet’s profile, organizing essential information, and discovering the value the platform offers without overwhelming them.

And, most importantly, we want them to feel that someone has finally designed a pet care app around the realities of modern pet parenting. If a user finishes their first session thinking, “This makes my life easier,” then we’ve succeeded.

Devaarchit, tell me about a moment when having organized pet records actually mattered, like during a vet visit or an emergency.

Anyone who has rushed a pet to a veterinarian during an emergency understands how stressful those moments can be. The last thing a pet parent wants is to search through paper files or old messages to remember vaccination dates, medications, allergies, or previous diagnoses. Given the situation, one forgets things of importance despite having marked mentally to ask the veterinarian about them.

Digital records aren’t just about convenience, but they’re also about preparedness. This is because when accurate information is available immediately, veterinarians can make more informed decisions, pet parents feel more confident, and valuable time is not lost.

Our broader vision extends beyond storing information. We want digital health records to become a lifelong health companion that supports continuity of care, preventive healthcare, and better outcomes for every pet.

Shilpa, for households juggling family members, walkers, and sitters, how does shared care coordination change things?

One of the realities of modern pet parenting is that very few people care for a pet entirely on their own. In many households, responsibilities are shared between spouses, children, parents, pet walkers, sitters, boarding facilities, groomers, and veterinarians. While this collaborative approach is wonderful for the pet, it can also create gaps in communication and continuity of care.

From an operational perspective, we saw that most coordination still happens through phone calls, WhatsApp messages, handwritten notes, or simply relying on memory. That works until something important is missed — a medication dose, a feeding schedule, a grooming appointment, or even a behavioural observation that could be valuable during a veterinary consultation.

At petsNmore, our objective is to create a single, trusted source of information where every authorised caregiver has access to the right information at the right time. Whether it’s updating a completed walk, recording medication administration, tracking feeding routines, or sharing health records with a veterinarian, everyone involved in the pet’s care can work from the same information.

This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about creating continuity. When every caregiver is aligned, pets receive more consistent care, pet parents gain greater peace of mind, and professional service providers can deliver a more transparent and accountable experience.

As companion care continues to evolve in India, I believe collaborative care will become increasingly important. Technology should make that coordination effortless, allowing families to spend less time managing information and more time enjoying life with their companions.

Shilpa, how does your pet care app help people stay on top of grooming, feeding, medication, and vaccination schedules without it feeling like another chore?

One of our guiding principles has always been that technology should reduce mental effort — not create more of it.

Pet parents already have busy lives. They don’t want another pet care app demanding constant attention. Instead, they want timely support that helps them stay organized without becoming intrusive.

That’s why we’ve focused on creating a proactive experience rather than a reactive one. Intelligent reminders, centralized records, personalized schedules, and an intuitive interface work together to simplify daily responsibilities.

Equally important is flexibility. Every pet has unique needs depending on species, breed, age, lifestyle, and medical history. Our pet care app is designed to accommodate those differences rather than forcing every pet parent into a rigid workflow.

When people tell us they no longer worry about forgetting vaccinations or medication schedules, we know we’ve achieved our objective. The best technology quietly supports people without becoming the centre of attention.

Shilpa, pet records are personal. How do you think about earning someone's trust before they store that kind of information with you?

Trust must be earned continuously — it cannot be assumed.

When someone uploads years of medical history, prescriptions, vaccination records, and personal information about a beloved companion, they are placing significant trust in our pet care app, and we take that responsibility very seriously.

From the beginning, we have approached data management with three guiding principles: security, transparency, and user control.

Users should always understand why information is being collected, how it is being used, and who can access it. Their data should never become a commercial asset that is exploited without their knowledge.

Beyond technology, trust is also built through consistency. Reliable performance, responsive customer support, ethical business practices, and transparent communication all contribute to creating long-term confidence.

At petsNmore, we don’t see trust as a feature — it is the foundation upon which every feature is built.

Devaarchit, where should AI fit into the future of pet care, and where should it stay out of the picture?

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to fundamentally improve how pet parents access information, stay organized, and make informed decisions. However, our philosophy has always been very clear — AI should augment veterinary expertise, not replace it.

At petsNmore, we’re developing Benedict, our AI-powered pet care assistant, to act as a trusted companion throughout a pet parent’s journey. Benedict is designed to provide reliable educational guidance, help users understand pet care topics, answer everyday questions, assist in navigating the platform, and make it easier for pet parents to access relevant information when they need it most.

Beyond answering questions, Benedict is being developed to become a proactive assistant. As our pet care app evolves, it will help pet parents interpret their pet’s health records, understand vaccination and medication schedules, receive preventive care reminders, discover relevant products and services, learn about nutrition, behaviour, and wellness, and access trusted resources tailored to their pet’s profile. The objective is to simplify information and encourage responsible decision-making rather than overwhelm users with data.

That said, we believe there is a clear boundary that AI should not cross.

Diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing medications, and clinical decision-making should always remain the responsibility of qualified veterinary professionals. AI lacks the clinical judgement, physical examination, and contextual understanding that veterinarians bring to every consultation.

Our vision is for Benedict to become an intelligent digital companion that empowers pet parents with knowledge while strengthening the relationship between pet parents and veterinary professionals — not replacing it. If AI can help people ask better questions, recognize when professional care is needed, and become more proactive about preventive healthcare, then it has served its purpose.

For us, the future of AI in companion care isn’t about replacing human expertise. It’s about making trusted knowledge more accessible, encouraging preventive care, and giving every pet parent the confidence to make better decisions throughout their companion’s life.

Shilpa, beyond download numbers, what tells you that your app is genuinely improving pet care?

Downloads are an encouraging milestone, but they don’t tell us whether we’re truly making a difference. For me, the real measure of success begins after someone installs the app.

I look at how pet parents are engaging with the platform in their everyday lives.

  • Are they creating complete pet profiles?
  • Are they maintaining digital health records?
  • And are vaccination and medication reminders helping them stay on schedule?
  • With all this, are they returning to the platform because it has become part of their pet care routine?

We also pay close attention to customer feedback. Some of the most meaningful moments come when users tell us they were able to quickly access medical records during a veterinary visit, remembered an important vaccination because of a reminder, or discovered a trusted product on the marketplace or service provider in the near future through petsNmore. Those stories demonstrate that we’re solving real problems, not simply providing digital features.

As COO, I’m equally focused on continuous improvement. Every interaction, every suggestion, and every piece of customer feedback helps us refine our pet care app and make it more intuitive. If petsNmore can reduce stress, save time, and help pet parents provide better care for their companions, then we’re creating genuine value. That’s the metric that matters most to me.

Devaarchit, a lot of pet care apps get installed and abandoned within a week. What keeps people coming back to yours?

Retention doesn’t come through notifications alone. You know people return when a product becomes genuinely useful in their daily lives.

Our strategy isn’t to create reasons for people to open our pet care app. Instead, we want to become an indispensable part of responsible pet parenting. Because

  • Health records remain relevant throughout a pet’s lifetime.
  • Vaccination schedules continue evolving.
  • Marketplace needs change.
  • Educational content expands.
  • Community conversations remain active.
  • Veterinary support continues throughout different life stages.

By connecting these experiences, petsNmore grows alongside the pet rather than serving a single purpose. And that’s what creates long-term engagement.

Shilpa, how does user feedback actually make it into product changes? Walk me through that process.

Listening is only the beginning. The real challenge is translating feedback into meaningful improvements.

We evaluate every suggestion alongside behavioural analytics, operational feasibility, customer impact, technical complexity, and long-term product strategy. Sometimes users ask for a specific feature, but deeper analysis reveals that the underlying problem is simple and we can solve it more elegantly in another way.

Our product development process is highly collaborative. Customer feedback informs discussions between operations, technology, design, marketing, and leadership before finalizing the priorities.

We don’t build features because users request them frequently. Nor we build solutions because they solve meaningful problems. We build to improve the entire pet industry ecosystem. And that distinction has become one of our guiding product principles.

Shashwat, when you connect users to products and services through the marketplace, what standards do you hold partners to?

Trust doesn’t stop with our platform — it extends to every brand, product, and service that becomes part of the petsNmore ecosystem.

As we build our marketplace, our priority is quality and trust. We evaluate every partner on multiple parameters, including product authenticity, quality standards, regulatory compliance, ethical business practices, operational reliability, customer service, and their commitment to animal welfare. We want pet parents to feel confident that every recommendation they discover through petsNmore has been carefully considered rather than simply listed.

Beyond these standards, we also believe petsNmore has a responsibility to contribute to the growth of India’s companion care industry. The country is witnessing an exciting wave of homegrown entrepreneurs developing innovative products that are thoughtfully designed for Indian pets and pet parents. We are collaborating with a new generation of indigenous companies that are bringing fresh ideas and high-quality products to the market.

Where a homegrown brand meets our quality, safety, and customer expectations, we are keen to provide it with greater visibility and help it compete alongside established global brands. Supporting Indian innovation isn’t about excluding international brands — it’s about creating a level playing field where quality, trust, and customer value determine success.

At the same time, we remain brand agnostic in our recommendations. Every product or service on petsNmore should earn its place based on merit, customer experience, and the value it delivers. Our responsibility is to curate a marketplace that pet parents can trust while also helping strengthen the broader companion care ecosystem in India.

Devaarchit, pet care discovery in India still feels fragmented. How are you trying to make that more reliable?

One of the biggest observations that led to the creation of petsNmore was just how fragmented the companion care ecosystem had become.

Pet parents were constantly switching between different platforms and sources to manage various aspects of their companions’ lives. Medical records were stored in paper files or scattered across email threads, vaccination reminders depended on personal calendars, product purchases happened on one platform, service discovery relied heavily on social media groups or word-of-mouth recommendations, and trusted veterinary information often required extensive searching. Each of these services existed independently, but none of them truly worked together.

As pet parents ourselves, we experienced these challenges firsthand. It became evident that the issue wasn’t the lack of products or services — it was the lack of a connected ecosystem that brought everything together in a meaningful way. That realization became the foundation of petsNmore.

Rather than building another standalone application, we set out to create a unified pet care platform where pet parents could manage their entire journey — from health records, preventive care, and veterinary support to trusted products, professional services, educational resources, and community engagement — all within one integrated ecosystem.

For us, improving discovery isn’t simply about helping users find a veterinarian or a product more quickly. It’s about reducing the complexity of pet parenting by bringing together trusted information, verified businesses, and essential services into one cohesive experience. When everything is connected, pet parents can spend less time navigating fragmented systems and more time focusing on what truly matters — the health, happiness, and well-being of their companions.

Shilpa, from an operations standpoint, what makes a pet business a strong partner to work with?

The strongest partners consistently place customer experience at the centre of everything they do. Because operational excellence isn’t measured only by scale. It reflects in reliability, communication, transparency, responsiveness, service quality, and willingness to continuously improve.

We value businesses that embrace technology because digital collaboration improves efficiency for everyone involved.  And, most importantly, we look for partners who genuinely care about animal welfare rather than viewing companion care purely as a commercial opportunity.

For us, shared values often matter more than business size.

Devaarchit, how can petsNmore give smaller groomers, trainers, and walkers more visibility than they'd get on their own?

One of the biggest opportunities in India’s companion care industry lies in supporting the thousands of independent groomers, trainers, walkers, behaviourists, and pet care professionals who deliver exceptional services but often struggle with visibility.

As we continue building the petsNmore ecosystem, one of our key focus areas over the next six months is to introduce a services network that connects pet parents with verified service providers. We aim to give these professionals a digital platform where they can showcase their expertise, build credibility, and reach a much wider audience than they typically could through word-of-mouth or social media alone.

For us, this isn’t just about creating another marketplace. It’s about helping quality service providers grow alongside the industry while giving pet parents easier access to trusted professionals. When small businesses succeed, the entire companion care ecosystem becomes stronger.

Devaarchit, is petsNmore more of a pet parent app, a growth platform for pet businesses, or genuinely both at once?

It has to be both.

If pet parents receive an exceptional experience while businesses struggle to grow, the ecosystem eventually weakens. Similarly, if businesses benefit but customers don’t receive meaningful value, long-term adoption becomes difficult.

Our vision is to create a platform where every stakeholder benefits.

  • Pet parents gain convenience and trusted services.
  • Veterinarians gain better engagement.
  • Businesses gain digital visibility and growth opportunities.
  • Technology providers gain integration opportunities.

The ecosystem becomes stronger because everyone’s success contributes to everyone else’s success. That’s fundamentally different from building a conventional consumer application.

Shilpa, what's different about building this for India versus what you've seen in more mature markets like the US or Europe?

As part of developing petsNmore, Devaarchit and I spent considerable time studying companion care platforms, digital health solutions, and pet care ecosystems across the US, Europe, Australia, and other mature markets. While there are many excellent products, one thing became very clear — there isn’t a single solution that can simply be replicated for India.

India’s companion care ecosystem is unique. Pet parenting practices, access to veterinary services, digital adoption, purchasing behaviour, regional diversity, and the overall maturity of the industry vary significantly across the country. What works in a mature market doesn’t always address the needs of Indian pet parents or businesses.

Our initial plan for aggregating pet care services similar to Yelp has transformed over time. Rather than trying to replicate existing platforms, we focused on understanding what Indian pet parents actually need and where the biggest gaps exist. That research shaped many of our product decisions — from creating a unified pet care app that brings together health records, preventive care, marketplace, knowledge, and community to designing features that are intuitive, scalable, and relevant to the Indian ecosystem.

While we’ve certainly drawn inspiration from global best practices, our goal has always been to build a platform for India, inspired by the world — not a copy of what’s already available elsewhere.

Shashwat, how much do regional differences across India shape decisions on language, partnerships, or service access?

Regional diversity is one of India’s greatest strengths, and any national platform must embrace that diversity rather than ignore it.

Different regions have different service ecosystems, customer expectations, purchasing behaviour, and business practices. As we expand, localization will play an increasingly important role — not only through language but also through regional partnerships, product availability, pricing considerations, and customer support.

Building nationally doesn’t mean building uniformly. It means creating a platform that remains locally relevant while maintaining consistent standards.

Shilpa, how have Indian pet parents changed in just the last five years?

Frankly, the transformation is remarkable.

Pets are increasingly viewed as family members rather than simply as animals living in the household. This shift has changed expectations across healthcare, nutrition, grooming, training, insurance, boarding, and overall wellness.

Today’s pet parents actively seek expert guidance, research products, invest in preventive healthcare, and expect digital convenience similar to what they experience in banking, travel, healthcare, and retail.

At the same time, awareness around responsible pet parenting has grown significantly. People want reliable information, trusted professionals, and solutions that help them make informed decisions throughout every stage of their companion’s life.

We believe this evolution is only the beginning. As the Companion Economy continues to mature, technology will play an increasingly important role in enabling responsible, informed, and connected pet care.

Devaarchit, you're based in Mumbai, and Shilpa, you are based in Bengaluru. How has the city's pet care scene shaped the way you both think about this?

Devaarchit: Mumbai is an excellent place to observe how rapidly pet care is evolving. You have highly engaged pet parents, experienced veterinarians, premium pet businesses, and increasing awareness around preventive healthcare. At the same time, even in one of India’s most developed pet care markets, we notice that information, services, and products are still fragmented.

That reinforced our belief that this isn’t a city-specific challenge. Rather, it is an industry-wide opportunity. While Mumbai gave us valuable insights, our vision has always been to build a platform that serves pet parents across India, regardless of the size of their city or the maturity of the local pet care ecosystem.

Shilpa: Being based in Bengaluru has given me another perspective. Bengaluru is one of India’s fastest-growing and most progressive pet care markets, with a vibrant community of pet parents, veterinary professionals, trainers, groomers, startups, and homegrown pet brands. It’s also a city where people are quick to adopt digital solutions, making it an excellent environment to understand evolving customer expectations.

During our product research and customer interactions, we found that even in a city with such a mature ecosystem, pet parents still manage medical records, reminders, shopping, and service discovery across multiple apps and offline channels. That validated what we were seeing elsewhere in the country — the need wasn’t for another standalone pet care app, but for a connected platform that brings everything together.

The insights we’ve gathered from Bengaluru, combined with learnings from other cities across India and our research into global pet care ecosystems, have played a significant role in shaping petsNmore into a platform designed specifically for the needs of Indian pet parents.

Shilpa, what part of building petsNmore has felt the most personal to you?

For me, the most meaningful part has been speaking directly with pet parents and understanding the challenges they experience every day. Behind every feature we build is a real story — a missed vaccination reminder, misplaced medical records during an emergency, difficulty finding a trusted service provider, or simply the stress of managing multiple aspects of pet care across different platforms.

As someone leading operations and product execution, those conversations shape many of our decisions. It’s incredibly rewarding to take a real-world problem, collaborate with our technology team, and turn it into a solution that genuinely makes life easier for pet parents.

Knowing that our work can help people care for their companions with greater confidence is what motivates me every day.

For all three of you, what's been the most humbling moment since petsNmore started?

Devaarchit: The most humbling realization has been understanding how much responsibility comes with building a platform that people trust. Pet parents aren’t just sharing data — they’re trusting us with an important part of their pets’ lives.

Shilpa: For me, it’s been seeing how many people genuinely want better tools to care for their pets. Every conversation reinforces that we’re building something that has the potential to create meaningful impact, and that responsibility keeps us grounded.

Shashwat: Building a startup teaches you that sustainable growth requires patience, discipline, and constant learning. Every milestone reminds us that long-term success is built through consistent execution rather than quick wins.

Devaarchit, what has petsNmore taught you about patience and leadership that you didn't expect?

Leadership has taught me that building something meaningful takes far more patience than most people imagine.

When you’re creating a pet care platform for an entire ecosystem, there are always more ideas than resources. One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to prioritise — not just what to build, but what to postpone.

I’ve also realised that leadership isn’t about having every answer. It’s about bringing together the right people, encouraging different perspectives, and creating an environment where the best ideas can emerge. Progress isn’t measured by how quickly you move, but by whether you’re moving in the right direction.

Shashwat, what keeps you grounded when things move fast?

Finance naturally encourages long-term thinking. While it’s exciting to innovate and pursue new opportunities, my role is to ensure that growth is supported by strong financial discipline, sound governance, and responsible decision-making.

What keeps me grounded is remembering that sustainable businesses aren’t built on momentum alone. They’re built on consistency. Every investment, every partnership, and every expansion decision should strengthen the business for the future while continuing to deliver value to our customers and partners.

Devaarchit, what kind of culture are you trying to build internally, beyond the product itself?

We’re building a culture of ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning.

We encourage every team member to challenge assumptions, propose new ideas, and think from the customer’s perspective. We don’t want people who simply complete tasks. Rather, we want people who genuinely care about solving problems.

As we grow, preserving that mindset will be just as important as building great technology.

Devaarchit, what's the next real milestone you're working toward?

Our immediate focus is on strengthening the core platform and expanding the value we deliver to pet parents. Over the coming months, we’ll continue enhancing digital health management, preventive care capabilities, AI-powered assistance through Benedict, and our marketplace.

A key milestone on our roadmap is the introduction of a trusted services network, bringing veterinarians, groomers, trainers, walkers, boarding providers, and other pet care professionals onto the platform. This is an important step in our vision of creating a truly connected companion care ecosystem.

For us, success isn’t measured by the number of features we launch, but by how effectively they improve the lives of pets, pet parents, and the professionals who care for them.

Shilpa, what's one improvement you're hoping users notice the moment it ships?

I hope users notice how much simpler and more connected their pet care journey becomes.

We’re continuously refining our pet care platform to make navigation more intuitive, improve access to important information, and reduce the effort to manage everyday responsibilities. Every future enhancement is with one objective — to make petsNmore feel like a trusted companion rather than just another application.

If users feel that caring for their pets has become easier, more organised, and less stressful, we’ll know we’re moving in the right direction.

Devaarchit, where's the bigger opportunity: marketplace, community, health tracking, partnerships, or AI-led support?

The real opportunity isn’t in choosing one of those areas — it’s in bringing them together.

Each of these capabilities becomes more valuable when it’s connected to the others. Health records support preventive care; AI helps users make sense of information; trusted partnerships expand access to quality services; the marketplace provides reliable products; and the community encourages learning and shared experiences.

Our vision has always been to build an integrated ecosystem rather than a collection of independent features. When these elements work together, they create a far more meaningful experience for pet parents and stronger opportunities for businesses and professionals across the industry.

For pet businesses reading this, who are you hoping will reach out to partner or collaborate?

We’re looking to collaborate with organisations that share our commitment to improving pet care in India. That includes veterinarians, clinics, hospitals, groomers, trainers, walkers, boarding providers, pet nutrition companies, homegrown brands, manufacturers, retailers, NGOs that follow ethical practices, animal welfare organisations, and technology partners.

We’re particularly excited to work with businesses that believe in innovation, transparency, and creating long-term value for pet parents. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected ecosystem that benefits everyone involved.

For someone discovering petsNmore today, why try this instead of just managing everything manually?

Because pet parenting should be about enjoying your companion — not managing scattered information.

Today, many pet parents rely on paper records, multiple apps, spreadsheets, calendars, and messaging platforms to organise different aspects of care. petsNmore brings those pieces together into one connected ecosystem, making it easier to stay organised, informed, and proactive.

Whether it’s maintaining digital health records, receiving timely reminders, accessing trusted knowledge, discovering quality products and services, or connecting with professionals, our goal is to simplify everyday pet parenting so families can focus on creating more meaningful moments with their companions.

Three years from now, what do you want Indian pet parents to say this changed for them?

Three years from now, I hope pet parents don’t simply say that petsNmore was a useful pet car app — we hope they say it changed the way they cared for their pets.

If we’ve been successful, managing a pet’s health records, vaccinations, appointments, trusted services, and everyday care will feel organised and effortless rather than fragmented and stressful. More importantly, I hope they’ll say that petsNmore gave them greater confidence as pet parents by helping them make informed decisions and focus on preventive care instead of reacting to problems.

Beyond individual experiences, I hope we’ve contributed to raising the overall standard of pet care in India. If we’ve helped pet parents connect with trusted professionals, enabled small pet businesses to grow, encouraged homegrown innovation, and brought the ecosystem closer together, then we will have achieved something much bigger than building a technology platform.

Ultimately, our ambition has never been to build just another pet care app. It’s to create a trusted pet care ecosystem that improves the lives of pets, empowers pet parents, and supports everyone who contributes to their well-being. If, three years from now, people say “petsNmore made caring for my pet simpler, smarter, and more connected,” We believe we’ll be on the right path.

Thank you all again for this conversation. Any closing thoughts you'd like to share with readers before we wrap up?

Devaarchit: India is witnessing an exciting transformation in pet care, and we believe this is just the beginning. Our vision is to help build an ecosystem where technology makes responsible pet parenting easier and more accessible for everyone.

Shilpa: Every feature we develop begins with one simple question: Will this genuinely improve the lives of pets and their families? That philosophy continues to guide every decision we make, and we’re grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey.

Shashwat: Building a sustainable ecosystem requires collaboration. We look forward to working with veterinarians, businesses, partners, and pet parents who share our vision of raising the standard of pet care across India.

As we continue this journey, we’d love for the community to be a part of it. Whether you’re a pet parent, veterinarian, clinic, trainer, groomer, walker, pet business, homegrown brand, or simply someone passionate about improving pet care, your ideas, feedback, and experiences can help shape what petsNmore becomes.

We don’t see this as building a product for the community — we see it as building it with the community. Together, we have an opportunity to create a more connected, collaborative, and trusted pet care ecosystem for India, one that ultimately improves the lives of every pet and every family that loves them.

This conversation makes one point clear: petsNmore is not building for quick attention. It is building for lasting use, stronger trust, and better coordination across India’s companion care sector.
